General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton confirmed Monfries would miss an extended period of football following the injury he suffered in Saturday night’s match against Fremantle.

“Scans have confirmed that he does have a tear and is going to be out for a number of weeks,” Hamilton said.

“There wasn’t a specific incident during the game but he suffered some tightness so it is disappointing news.

“We need some further verification on how long he will miss but it is a definite tear and he will be out of action for at least the next three weeks at a minimum.”

In better news for the Bombers, Jason Winderlich is set to make his return from injury for Bendigo in the VFL next weekend against North Ballarat.

“We have all been waiting for Jason to come back following hamstring concerns after his knee operation and he is due back to play,” Hamitlon said.

“The VFL has a bye this week but he will be fit to play the following week.”

“He will be joined by one of our young recruits in Nick O’Brien who we know had the foot injury and was out for a number of weeks but will return.”

Hamilton ruled out any long term concerns for big man Scott Gumbleton after he suffered concussion playing in the VFL on the weekend.

“He was a bit unfortunate, it was fairly early in the game and a player coming the other way accidently knocked into him,” he said.

“He ended up requiring twelve stitches to his mouth area so it was unfortunate but not a long term concern or problem.

“With the VFL bye this week he gets the chance to rest as he did have some mild concussion but he will be available for the next VFL game.”
