Joel Reynolds could possibly be training for the Athen’s Olympics at the moment, but instead he is in the midst of his third pre-season with the Bombers. Before coming to Essendon, fitness coach John Quinn spent years training Olympic track athletes and he had no hesitation in saying that Reynolds has the physical attributes of a potential Olympic sprinter or long jumper. Despite choosing football as his career path, Reynolds will still get a taste of the sprinting action tomorrow when he competes in the Rye Gift.

After Essendon's success in the 2003 Rye Gift, a handful of players will compete in this year’s competition. As part of the pre-season electives program, Reynolds, Jason Winderlich, Jay Nash, Brent Stanton and Ricky Dyson have been training for the event for the past two months. The sprinting action kicks off at 10am and Essendon supporters are welcome to cheer the Bomber players on when they compete tomorrow.
