Essendon Football Club is pleased to confirm Michael Hurley has re-committed to the club after agreeing to a new five-year deal.

Hurley, 21, has played 47 senior games for the Bombers and his contract extension will see him remain at Essendon until the end of the 2017 season.

Essendon senior coach James Hird said the club was extremely pleased to have secured Hurley ahead of the home and away season.

“Michael is an incredibly important part of our future and it is very exciting for the club to have secured his services for the next five years.""

""There was always going to be a lot of interest in a player of Michael's ability so for him to commit to the club is a great sign of his faith in the direction we are heading.""

“He is a fantastic young man and an exceptional talent that we feel the club will be able to build its future around. Our long-term vision always included Michael and this was recently supported by his elevation to the leadership group.”

Hurley joins young stars Jake Melksham, David Zaharakis and Dyson Heppell to recently commit to the Bombers long term.

Michael Hurley was Essendon’s first round selection (pick number five overall) in the 2008 AFL National Draft. Michael was nominated for the NAB AFL Rising Star award in both 2009 and 2010. Hurley was crucial to the clubs top eight finish last season, and this was recognised with his top three finish in the clubs best and fairest award. Michael has played 47 games and kicked 49 goals for Essendon, since making his debut in 2009.
