Johnson will be available for Essendon’s first round match against Sydney at The Dome on Saturday night, April 1. If things progress well he may also play in the finals of the NAB Cup should the Bombers progress that far or the final two games of the regional practice match series.
New Bomber Richard Cole has had minor arthroscopic surgery on his knee to assess the extent of a patella tendon problem. He is expected to resume full training in early February.
The three players that underwent post-season shoulder surgery remain on track to resume full training in mid-February. Angus Monfries, Aaron Henneman and Tristan Cartledge have complete all the pre-season running to this stage.
""They are progressing well but we are still not looking at them joining in full scale training until mid-February. They can still complete most of the pre-season fitness work but we just want to err on the side of caution with their shoulders and ensure the healing process is fully complete before they join in full scale training,"" Essendon’s General Manager of Football Operations Dom Cato said.
