It was the view of the panel that McPharlin ran back to contest the ball. Initially, he had his eyes on the ball and was looking over his shoulder. The Fremantle player then looked at the marking contest while moving towards it. McPharlin then looked up again at the ball as it went over his head, just prior to reaching Stevens. Given that his eyes were on the ball just before contact was made, it was considered a legitimate attempt to spoil the ball. No further action was taken.
