The afternoon was spent reading with thelocal children both from their favourite books in the library and from the club's exclusively written novella, ‘Pencil O’Reilly’. Pencil O’Reilly is theprimary text used in the literacy program as it offers a story that isinteresting and engaging to all primary school children and also encouragesreluctant readers to participate.
Essendon Football Club donated four copies of PencilO’Reilly to the library so all children have the opportunity to read the book.
As Pencil O’Reilly was read out to thechildren at Niddrie Library, Skeeta acted out the scenes, entertaining thecrowd with his dance moves and one handed pushups.
It was hoped that the key message of theday was taken home by parents and that they will now encourage their childrento read for at least 10 minutes every day.
