Alwyn Davey and Rhys Magin travelled to Bathurst Island for the game, joining The Honourable Warren Snowdon MP, Tony Frawley (CEO AFLNT) Michael Long and Walter Kerinaiua - Senior Mantiyupwi Traditional Owner - for the official opening. The Tiwi Bombers opened the ground in style, defeating the Darwin Buffaloes by 91 points.
EFC has been an official partner of the Tiwi Bombers since their inception in 2006. In 2009 the partnership will broaden to take on more of a community-wide focus, including the provision of leadership and development opportunities for players and staff alike.
Tiwi Bombers President, Allan McGill, said the ability of the club to play home games on Bathurst Island is an important step in ensuring the sustainability of the Bombers.
“The opportunity to play in front of our home crowd allows the club to further strengthen its relationship with the community. This local support is crucial in guaranteeing the future of the club.”
EFC will also host the Imalu Tigers, from the Tiwi Island of Melville, in the week leading up to Dreamtime at the G. Imalu will be playing in the curtain raiser against the West Victorian Eels at the MCG.
