The Bendigo Bombers have bounced back from last week’s loss with a comprehensive 27-point victory against North Ballarat at Eureka Stadium.
Bendigo coach Shannon Grant said the result was pleasing after such a disappointing effort in Round 1.
“It was good that we responded after the way the boys played last week,” he said.
“We got out of the blocks and played really well in the first half and grinded out a pretty good win in the second half so it was a really pleasing result.”
Grant said Andrew Welsh had a massive influence on the game in his return to football after an abdominal strain.
“Welshy was really good, he got a lot of the footy, he’s really strong through the midfield not only by the way he got the ball but also with his leadership and the way he sets up all the younger blokes around him.”
Essendon players Kyle Reimers, Brent Prismall, Jake Carlisle and Ariel Steinberg also stood out in the win.
“Kyle Reimers was fantastic playing off half back and through the midfield in one of the best games I’ve seen him play.”
""Brent Pismall was another one who really stood up when we needed him and Ariel Steinberg showed plenty of spark up forward.”
“Jake Carlisle playing down back was also very good and it was probably his best game for a long time”
“Luke Davis and Alex Browne showed signs they are going to be very good players for a very long time,” he said
“So it was pretty pleasing considering the amount of young players we’ve got coming through and they continue to improve each week.”
