General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said the decision to rest the 23-year-old was made today following consultation with the club's medical staff.
""Angus hasn't had a reoccurrence of the injury but he did have a minor setback last week. The medical staff have advised that they are happy with his progress but that he requires a further week on the training track before he is available for selection."" Hamilton said.
Monfries sustained the hamstring injury during Essendon's Round 11 clash with Sydney.
Ruckman David Hille also suffered a hamstring against the Swans and is expected to miss another 2-3 weeks following a minor reoccurrence at training on Tuesday.
