Tim and Jobe Watson will this weekend equal Michael and Travis Tuck in eighth position on all time list for games played by a father and son combination in AFL history. With the conclusion of round seven and Jobe’s 139th game, Tim and Jobe will have played a combined 446 games. This will also place them second on the list of highest father/son games at the Essendon Football Club, behind Ken and Dustin Fletcher who have a combined 617 games.

1977 was the debut year of a young Tim Watson, a player whose skill and strength made him one of the legends of the Essendon Football Club. Tim had a long and successful career at Essendon playing 307 games and kicking 335 goals. He played in three premierships for the Bombers, was captain of the club between 1989-1991 and won four Crichton medals during his career. His efforts and commitment to the club saw him inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame in 2000.

Not living in his father’s shadow, Jobe has made a name for himself at Essendon and proved to be a great asset to the club. Since debuting in 2003, Jobe has played 138 games and kicked 63 career goals. He has been captain of the club since 2010 and was awarded best and fairest in 2009 and 2010.

The successes of both Tim and Jobe means they have been one of the strongest father/son pairs to play for one club and two of the favourite sons of the Essendon Football Club. Their passion and drive has cemented them a place in the hearts of all Essendon supporters and all are happy to see them reach this family milestone. We congratulate Tim and Jobe on their commitment to the club and on their achievement of 446 AFL games, a number which is sure to grow in years to come.
