Essendon will head into the NAB Cup tournament relatively injury free with General Manager of Football Operations, Paul Hamilton saying he has been pleased with the Club’s pre-season progress.

Hamilton said Leroy Jetta will be made available for Friday night’s NAB Cup games against Brisbane and St Kilda after initial concerns of a flesh wound during last week’s intra-club match.

“Leroy has had a great pre-season and when he left the ground early at the intra-club we were concerned but thankfully his scare has just proved to be a split in his shin and he will be available for Friday night,” Hamilton told Bomber TV.

New recruit Ariel Steinberg is recovering encouragingly well after jarring his knee following the Club’s intra-club match.

“Ariel was the only real injury concern but as it turns out it’s a grade one medial ligament, so what that means is he is likely to miss between two to three weeks and should be back into full training, certainly within the month,” Hamilton said.

“While Ariel has been training really well and he was clearly disappointed, being a first year boy we are really pleased with where he is at.”

Both Tayte Pears (foot) and Kyle Reimers (thigh) are unlikely to play throughout the NAB Cup series but are making impressive recoveries and in the process of each undertaking modified training regimes.

“Both Tayte and Kyle are unlikely to play throughout the NAB Cup series and with Kyle’s recent thigh concern, we are treating this carefully because of his history with thigh problems.”

“We have again been fairly conservative in the management of Kyle’s light quad strain but he has certainly been impressive in the way he goes about his recovery,” Hamilton stated.

Hamilton told BomberTV, ruckman David Hille could make a week three return during the NAB Cup series should he continue his pleasing recovery from a recent knee complaint.

“We would hope if David continues to progress as well as he has, he should be available in the last week or two [of the NAB Cup]. We are considerate that a lot of things have to fall into place by then but we are confident that could happen and that he could possibly make a return,” Hamilton said.
