Essendon could be bolstered by the return of key players this week, with captain Jobe Watson and key position player Michael Hurley expected to make the trip west to play Fremantle.

General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said the Bombers had almost a full playing list available for selection for Sunday's game, with Watson (hamstring) and Hurley (calf) expected to be significant inclusions for the team.

""There's not going to many players who aren't available this week. Jobe Watson and Hurley should return this week as long as they get through training this week they should be available so it's pretty exciting from that point of view,"" Hamilton told the Recovery Room.

Essendon will also welcome back Andrew Welsh and Scott Gumbleton from injury this week with the pair expected to return through the VFL.

Hamilton said despite the club's poor recent record interstate, the team were looking forward to regrouping in order to atone for last week's poor performance against Melbourne.

""An interstate trip is not a bad thing because sometimes it's good to get your players together,"" Hamilton said.

""Clearly it will be a challenge given our record in Perth but that's history and now it's about looking to the future.

""We've said all along this year that our season is about improvement and that continual effort to improve and take steps forward and review in order to get things right and that is something that we will continue to do.

""Our coaches are working really hard with the players to review Friday night's game and hopefully we can put together a team that works really hard and puts in a good performance against Fremantle at Subiaco.""
