Essendon on-baller Sam Lonergan has suffered a spiral fracture to a bone in his hand.
Football operations manager, Paul Hamilton, said the 22-year-old was injured during a routine training drill today.
""It was an innocuous incident and was just one of those unlucky things that can happen at training,"" he said.
""He had scans today and will see a specialist tonight so we will know more about the injury and exactly what it means, regarding missing any games, tomorrow (Wednesday).
""We didn't get any injuries from our game against Port Adelaide and our injury list has been improving so this is a disappointing event for Sam and for the club.”
Meanwhile, Hamilton has explained the mystery surrounding an unusual lump on Scott Lucas' elbow on Sunday.
""Scott has Bursitis of the elbow which basically means he has extra fluid on his elbow.
""This is not a new thing for him but getting a knock on it during the game just caused it to flare up.
""It doesn't present any functional problems but it just doesn't look great.""
Matthew Knights says emerging key defender Paddy Ryder could soon be utilised in the ruck and forward, if the Bombers' new look defensive line-up continues to develop. After solid performances from young defenders Michael Hurley and Tayte Pears, Knights is considering a move for 21-year-old Ryder.
