Essendon Coach Kevin Sheedy believes that the Bombers are in their best physical condition in years, warning Adelaide to prepare themselves for a thriller in the season opener.

""I think it is going to be a bumper season. We have been training really hard and the players realise it is a top game to start off the season and get one of the away games out of the road straight away,"" Sheedy said.

""The past two years we have travelled over to Adelaide with some injuries and we have ended up getting our backsides smacked.

""But this year it is them with the injuries so we will go over there with a plan of how we want to play which is the way we have played over summer.

""We will just get out there and see if we can win it.""

Sheedy is positive the Bombers are miles away from their 2006 form, believing the Club has taken the necessary steps to ensure the pride of the Red and Black is restored.

""We have put a lot of work in place to get our team right and to make sure we have a good season this year because we have had two ordinary years and we want to transform ourselves into an excellent footy team again,"" he explained.

""As far as last year goes, we have moved on and went to the draft and now we are back here ready to do something about it.

After setting the field alight with impressive individual performances throughout the pre-season competition, Sheedy believes the latest bunch of draftees are set to play a role in the rebuilding of the team.

""They have all been really solid and I wouldn’t be surprised if we even had two or three of the young guys playing for us in the first match against Adelaide.""

""Leroy Jetta, Alwyn Davey and Bachar Houli will all definitely play this year it is just a case of when.

Sheedy also speculated Jason Johnson and Scott Camporeale may play Round 1 after a battle with injuries.
