Essendon has agreed to a deal with Port Adelaide to send forward Orazio Fantasia to the Power.

The two clubs struck a deal in the dying stages of the 2020 AFL trade period, with the Bombers receiving pick No.29 and Port Adelaide's future third-round selection in exchange for Fantasia and pick No.73.

Fantasia spent seven seasons at the Bombers, kicking 111 goals from 80 games.

The 25-year-old requested a trade to Port Adelaide at the end of the season to be closer to his family in his native South Australia.

General manager of list and recruiting Adrian Dodoro said while losing Fantasia was disappointing, the picks gained from trading him helped secure one of the Dons' exciting recruits.

"Orazio leaving helped us get Jye Caldwell over the line," Dodoro said.

"It’s disappointing because Orazio’s been a fan favourite and a really good player for our club over a number of years.

"He wanted to go and be closer to his family and we wish him all the very best for the future."
