Essendon coach James Hird believes ruckmanDavid Hille has a role to play for the Bombers next season.

Hille, 31, is out of contract at the end ofthe season, but Hird said the veteran remained an important part of the club’sfuture.

“That’s a decision that he’s got to make,”Hird said.

“He’s got a contract in front of him and we’dlike him to stay. We're really keen for David to stay as we see him as a really big partof our ruck division.""

Injury and form has restricted Hille tojust 8 games this season but Hird said the Bombers ruck depth is an asset.

“I think going into the season next yearwith Tom Bellchambers, Paddy Ryder, David Hille and Joe Daniher gives us somereal strength in that area,” Hird said.

“David is a required player and there’s acontract there for him  - I know there isa lot of rumor and innuendo around this time of year but we’re very hopefulDavid stays next year.”
