The Essendon fans were pleased with Jason Johnson’s season, however the majority felt he wasn’t as impressive as he has been in the past two years. The fans agreed that he is one of the most hardworking players at the club and is the engine room in the Bombers’ mid-field. Johnson recorded a ranking of 7.6 out of 10 and the fans were pleased with his 15-goal contribution for the season. The fans believe that the inclusion of new mid-fielder Justin Murphy and the improvement of some of the younger players will provide much needed support to Johnson in the mid-field area.

Robert Shaw’s thoughts:
Jason Johnson has maintained his consistency as one of the games toughest and hardest working mid-fielders. He is a very fit player, but probably one of the areas he needs to improve in is to become super fit, to compete with the likes of Ben Cousins. So he just needs to add that 10% fitness. In 2000 he kicked 20 goals from the mid-field, so we need a goal a game from him next year. He is a real courageous and hardworking mid-fielder.

What some of fan’s had to say:
The biggest heart at the Essendon football club. Gave his all every week last year and that’s nothing new as he has done it his whole career. Needs some help in midfield as he has carried it for far to long. Mark Mannion

Another consistent season, especially during the middle part of the season. Always heavily tagged and thus can be beaten at times but once again showed he is the heart, soul and drive of the Essendon midfield. Roderick Brown

Another great year. Gets in and gets the ball and his courage is unquestioned. Needs support in the midfield and needs to improve his goal kicking. Gives 100% and provided great drive. Rod Ansell

Another hardworking season from JJ. Needs more support but it's on its way from the new group of Baby Bombers. Cameron McBride

Jason Johnson is one of those players you can always rely on to get the ball and create opportunities for our forwards. He had another great season and hopefully in 2004 our midfield will be big enough and talented enough to rotate it off the bench like we did in 2000. Steven Bird

Just keeps on working hard throughout the game without to much fuss. Needs some support. Keep the goal kicking going in 2004. Tony Cosentino

A real gutsy class player. His hardness and determination gave him a never give up attitude. Should be rated high in Essendon's best list. Howard Sharman

Typically tough gutsy performance all year - should work harder on disposal and would be brilliant -widen the
