With Round One of the NAB Cup only weeks away, General Manager of Football Operations Paul Hamilton says training has shifted to include match simulation and an increased focus on contested ball drills.

“The training this week has been tough, although really solid. It has very much been about game sense and game like replications and we have focused on contested ball sessions, certainly everything you would expect at this time of year.

“We are getting to the stage where practice games are not far away and the guys have been prepared well by both the coaching and fitness staff to be readily primed for those upcoming practice matches. Because of this, what we are finding is that they are long, hard and physical sessions,” Hamilton told Bomber TV.

David Hille and Scott Gumbleton are recovering well from minor knee operations prior to the Christmas break and are impressing medical staff with their recovery.

“There haven’t been any setbacks with those boys since their surgery and the medical staff are extremely pleased with their progress.

“Despite not being in full training just yet, both of them are holding up well and are certainly not far off from the physical sessions,” Hamilton said.

Both Taite Silverlock and David Myers are showing encouraging signs after returning to full training regimes since their respective foot injuries.

“Taite has shown some great signs in terms of his training and we are really pleased with his hard work. He has kept himself in really good condition with non weight bearing fitness sessions. Both Taite and David are really working hard and are now both in the mix at training.”

Hamilton told Bomber TV he was looking forward to seeing the boys in action against the DEC Bushrangers on Australia Day at Windy Hill.

“It’s going to be a great day and I know our boys are particularly keen on doing battle against the DEC Bushrangers and showcasing their somewhat questionable batting and bowling abilities.”
