Essendon is calling all fans to support the Bombers as they race players from six local Premiership football teams in Geelong this Sunday for the Jack Clarke perpetual trophy.

They will race players from either the seniors or reserves Premiers from Geelong's three football leagues (the teams are: South Barwon, Leopold, Newcomb Power, Ocean Grove, Belmont Lions and Bannockburn).

The event is part of the Ron Clarke Classic athletics meet and is a great opportunity for fans in Geelong to see the Bombers up close and personal this pre-season.

After winning last year’s event, Essendon will send Angus Monfries, Brent Stanton, Adam McPhee, Bachar Houli, Heath Hocking and Henry Slattery to defend their title in the 3km-elimination event.

The Bombers will compete against seven other teams (the six local Premiership teams, and one local umpires team) which can contain up to 10 runners. Only the fastest five of each team will remain in the running for the final 1600m of the race - with all other runners being eliminated. Points will be allocated for finishing places (ie. First place scores one point, second place scores two points, etc) and the team with the lowest score will win.

The Essendon players will sign autographs for fans at the event which will feature live entertainment and a children’s area containing a jumping castle, face painting and a visit from Santa.

The event will also include some of Australia’s top athletes including Scott Martin, Libby Allen, Martin Dent, Scott Westcott, Peter Nowill and Georgie Clarke. Plus, you will not want to miss American sprinter, John Wood as he aims to break 10 seconds over 100 metres.
