The development of Angus Monfires over the last few seasons has seen him become a key to the team each week. He contributed with 25-goals in 2009 and through his strong leading and good hands he was a tough opponent for defenders.

His rating dropped marginally to 6.91/10 in 2009 compared to 6.89/10 the previous year. Bomber fans want to see Angus push into the midfield in 2010.

Here's what some of the Essendon fans had to say:

Love the way you play Gus. Great in front of the big sticks and calm under pressure. Hope we get to see you in the midfield in the future (Brad Clark)

Gus is a tremendous contested mark and his second efforts are good. Will need to covert more disposals into goals next year but is improving every year. (John Smith)

An excellent mark in the forward line. Missed him in the games he didn't play when we lacked strong hands. Need more goals from him if Essendon is to be a force. (Elaine Chan)

Great option up forward. Will only shine more next season without the Lloyd and Lucas up there demanding so much attention and football. Could soon be used through the middle a bit more to ease the pressure there and get more footy. (Marc Seen)

Angus has always been a good mark for his size and always leads at the ball aggresively, he continued to do this right through the the year. 25 goals was a good return for his work in the forward line and up-field. Keep the good work up. (Michael John Burton)

Tempted to give him rating 7 but I feel there are still a few too many games he does not perform as well as he can. Overall I'm pleased with his progress and better consistency but hope he works even harder for 2010 and earns a rating 8; he has the talent. (Sam Petrucev)

Very solid season from Gus, clearly his best for the club. He's very effective as a hit-up forward and continues to present time after time. This year he added 'defensive forward' to his repetoire, something the club has needed. Still a few too many quiet games but definitely a strong step in the right direction, keep it up Gus. (Paul Cousins)

Angus still not maximizing his potential though developing well. Needs a breakthrough year to lift his possession rate to 20+ and goals to 40+. Needs to add a bit of aggression to his game to keep the pressure on the backmen. (Jeff Hammond)

Angus is getting better every year and needs to improve his tank. I am excited about seeing him at his best. Has great courage. Less possessions than other players but very damaging with those possessions. (Ron Mercer)

Has turned up the heat on the opposition defence this year, and made an impressive impact. Needs to keep up his high standard of play and continue to dominate in the air. Definitely a high altitude Bomber. (Richard Hayward)

He's our best chance at a Riolli / Betts player. Has shone throughout most of the year. Two more years and he'll be a superstar! (Daylan Pearce)
