THE LAST BOMBERS v EAGLES FINAL
Essendon fans will be hoping this Saturday afternoon's Elimination Final against the West Coast Eagles follows a similar path to the last final these two sides played. Essendon and West Coast last clashed in a final in 1996 - it was a semi-final. It was a match that should have been played in Perth but the 'MCG rule' saw the Eagles travel east. In front of 85,656 Essendon prevailed by 77-points.

And there were some familiar Essendon names in the line-up that day. Sean Wellman (centre half back), Paul Barnard (wing), James Hird (half forward flank), Steven Alessio (centre half forward), Mark Mercrui (half forward flank) Matthew Lloyd (forward pocket), Dustin Fletcher (full forward) and Joe Misiti (Bench) all played that day. Alessio was best-on-ground after a five goal haul while Hird kicked four goals. Fletcher kicked three goals with Lloyd, Mercuri and Misiti each booting one.
Let's hope Essendon can re-produce such an emphatic performance.
Essendon champion Dick Reynolds has passed away at the age of 87. Dick died peacefully at Freemasons Hospital. Essendon chairman Graeme McMahon said the passing of Dick Reynolds was a very sad occasion, not only Essendon Football Club, but the game of Australian Rules Football. “On behalf of the Essendon members and supporters I pass on our sincerest condolences to the Reynolds family,” McMahon said. “He was a wonderful footballer and true gentleman who helped build the foundations on which this great club flourished.”
