Essendon lost just twice in 1911 - to finalists Carlton and South Melbourne - before finishing on top after 20 rounds.

The Bombers beat Carlton, and then fellow arch-nemesis Collingwood in the Grand Final, to win its third VFL premiership and seventh overall.

Billy Griffith finished the year on 175 games to become the first Essendon player to reach that milestone.
